A New Boss at WildNaturePhotos!

We're thrilled to announce an up-and-coming photographer is now running the show at WildNaturePhotos. Mark Arthur Wagner was born on July 10th, 2007, and he certainly runs the place! His favorite activites are breastfeeding and going for walks in the desert. He enjoys bird song and long looks in the mirror. So far, he's been in front of the camera, rather than behind it, but we have no doubt he'll want his own equipment and workstation before we know it. He's developing great grip strength and climbing skills, and we certainly have high hopes for him!

Ron Austing joins WildNaturePhotos!

We're pleased to announce that we will soon represent the outstanding wildlife photography of our friend and colleague, Ron Austing. Combining his knowledge of wildlife and photography, Ron became internationally known as a wildlife photographer at a relatively early age, with his first illustrated article published while he was still in high school. His photos have appeared in thousands of publications such as National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Audubon, National Wildlife, Ranger Rick, and countless others. In addition to many articles featuring photography and birds, he has authored several books, including I WENT TO THE WOODS, THE WORLD OF THE RED-TAILED HAWK and THE WORLD OF THE GREAT HORNED OWL.

Even though birds remain his primary subjects (particularly birds of prey and neotropical migrants), insects, mammals, herps and flowers are also represented among the more than fifty thousand transparencies and hundreds of hours of video footage in Ron's files. The majority of subjects are representative of Eastern and Midwestern regions of the U.S., with some Western species and a limited number from the Canadian arctic, Ecuador and the Galapagos, Mexico, Africa and India. As the official photographer at the Cincinnati Zoo for many years, images of many internationally rare and endangered species are available in naturalistic settings. We look forward to having Ron's images on our site soon!

NANPA, Elephant Seals

We've been busy scanning, keywording, and uploading images to the new web site. About a thousand down, 40,000 to go! We'll be at NANPA, at the book signing, so stop by and say hello!   After NANPA, we'll be along the coast of California, photographing the annual birthing/mating rituals of the Northern Elephant Seals.

New Photographers

WildNaturePhotos, LLC is pleased and proud to represent the photographic work of Helen and Noel Snyder and Greg Smith. Greg worked as a biologist for the State of California for 16 years before taking on the role of Superintendent of the Coastal Sector. His photographic interests are diverse, and range from pelagic birds to the wildlife of tropical rainforests. The Snyders are noted biologists/photographers and the authors of numerous books on raptors. They previously led the California Condor Endangered Species Recovery Program and the Arizona Thick-billed Parrot Reintroduction Program. Their current photographic work focuses mostly on their passion for raptors and butterflies. We'll have many of the most sought-after images from Helen, Noel, and Greg online soon.

New Web Site, Ecuador

We've been swamped! Our book is now available in bookstores and on Amazon, and we've finally released this all-new website that includes a keyword-searchable, online image database. Adding metadata and keywords to images is very time-intensive, and most of our collection is on slides. Scanning and uploading images will be a major thrust of our non-field work for the rest of the year. Check back frequently to monitor our progress!

We had a very productive trip to Ecuador last December - check out Margie and the Wooly Monkey. We'll have more Ecuador photos soon, as well as lots of other neat stuff from our collection. You can locate newly uploaded images by going to the Favorites page. There's a link for New Images.

How to Color-Manage Your Offset Printer

Rich published an article on CMYK conversion called "How to Color-Manage Your Offset Printer" in the May-June issue of NANPA Currents. You can download a reprint of the article here. Our book, Tread Lightly: Venomous and Poisonous Animals of the Southwest" is in production by Rio Nuevo Publishers and is due to hit the bookshelves in Spring, 2006. Lastly, we recently finished an incredible 4-week shoot of a Goshawk nest (among other things). The images are spectacular. Here's a preview: Goshawk Female with Young, RD-050604508 The parents successfully fledged three young. We have literally thousands of great images and hours of video from this beautiful nest.
